CAREER & COMPANY EXPLORATION
The Manufacturing Industrial Council will connect employers with teachers as often as possible.
Programs can receive:
- Field trip and tour options at manufacturing and maritime companies (Nichols Brothers Boat Builders, Machinists Inc, Janicki, Nucor, CalPortland, Wooldridrge Boats, SAFE Boats, Pacific Fisherman Shipyard, CSR Marine, American Seafoods, Romac, Vaagen Brothers, Westport Yachts, Kenworth, etc)
- Mock interviews with manufacturing and maritime companies
- A guide of WA manufacturing and maritime companies with good entry-level jobs, career advancement, benefits and wages. All surveyed by the MIC to answer all students questions.
Employer Engagement Services:
Let the MIC be your program advocate! Busy being a teacher but want to ramp up Employer-Engagement for your students? The MIC can provide outreach to your local business, a series of coordinated classroom visits, and classroom hand-outs so students and employers have meaningful, engaging workshops.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Maritime Instructors receive ongoing training opportunities set up by the MIC so instructors are comfortable with curriculum content and technical skills. Clock hours will be provided.
MIG WELDING. It’s in high demand. And it’s not common in classrooms.
Committed to bringing aluminum welding into classrooms, SAFE Boats International works DIRECTLY with our instructors at their facility and in high school classrooms (and virtually) to make our instructors comfortable with welding Aluminum.
Virtual and In-Person professional development opportunities will be offered as needed or desired by instructors.

FRAMEWORKS
Frameworks are usable in CTE manufacturing-based or marine-focused classrooms.
540hour Frameworks with Credit Equivalencies
Core Plus Maritime’s 540 hour framework was approved by OSPI for 3rd year Math, Science and ELA credit equivalencies in March 2021. This 540 hour framework easily fits a Skill Center program with focuses on Welding, Diesel Mechanics, Marine Maintenance & Ship Repair, Marine Carpentry/Boat Building.
180hour Frameworks: Recommended Sequence
The approved framework was broken down into a recommended series of three 180 hour frameworks to be used in comprehensive high schools. These recommended frameworks can help high schools offer a sequence of courses. They are easily adaptable to fit program needs.

CURRICULUM
This manufacturing curriculum uses boats to learn about highly transferable, foundational skills that prepare students for all kinds of industrial careers and interests. Even if their interest is fixing their ATV or fishing.
Free for instructors, Curriculum includes frameworks, classroom activities, lesson plans, project and lab suggestions, PowerPoints (for teacher reference, not students), evaluations and stackable student certificates. Resources and content are provided for topics not included in units, in the case someone wants to explore a topic further.

CERTIFICATES
Students have the opportunity to earn at least 3 industry recognized certificates.
Certificates represent the competencies being learned by students. Certificates set standards and expectations of what students will be learning. It is beneficial for their own person growth and it will also help when applying for a job or training program.
Core Plus Maritime Foundational Certificate**: Emphasizes personal skills needed to get an entry-level job; Basic safety skills needed in a shop, ship yard or boat; Standard Operation procedures and proper tool use. Awarded after 1st year in program.
Core Plus Maritime Certificate**: Emphasizes professionalism, communication and career readiness skills needed to get into a job or training program; experience with power tools and equipment; understanding of basic electricity and trouble shooting; 1st Aid & CPR training; maritime safety practices like properly identifying and extinguishing fires.
Washington Boater Safety Card: Students will receive a WA Boaters Safety Card near the start of their program so they can understand boat terminology, Rules of the Road and other water safety practices.
