LIFELONG LEARNING
Core Plus Maritime graduates learn skills in safety, tool and equipment use along with employability skills in successful resume writing and participating in mock job interviews with employers. Graduates earn certificates that document their learning achievements. Certificates are based on employer hiring requirements. Some grads go straight to work after high school. Others go to community colleges, professional marine trade schools or baccalaureate universities.
NOTHING LUCKY ABOUT IT
Learn where you can go with Core Plus from Lucky Mallarkey. After graduating from the Core Plus program at Seattle’s Rainier Beach High School, Lucky used his Core Plus shop skills to pursue work and education experiences that culminated in him earning his marine engineering degree from the Great Lakes Maritime Academy in Michigan. Lucky tells his story here.
ALL ABOUT YOU
Career learning is a rare topic where just about everything is truly All About You. Personal interests, aptitudes, and attitudes determine career success. Something about “maritime” prompted or even inspired you to read this far. Core Plus Maritime learning programs open the way for every student to pursue their very own marine-related career ambition.
A TRADITIONAL FUTURE
Honoring the land and water we live on, CP Maritime curriculum includes Washington state geography and history so students can understand and appreciate our natural resources and communities who have flourished here for thousands of years. Maritime is here to stay and employers need to hire! Companies are hoping Core Plus students make it to their door step. See our interactive map for details on these employers.
RIVER RATS AND DIESEL CATS
Students learn skills through industrial-grade platforms! American Seafoods donated two diesel CAT engines, two 26-person life rafts and 60 survival suits to Core Plus Maritime programs. One CAT went to New Market Skill Center and one CAT went to Sno-Isle Skill Center. Half of the safety training gear made it to Neah Bay High School via FV Alyeska, the other half is for training events.
Wooldridge Boats provides aluminum hull boat kits, River Rats, at a reduced cost for Core Plus Maritime instructors. Four of our maritime locations are currently welding River Rats.
Core Plus Maritime sites build boats that best suit their community needs. Most work with metals, some with woods, a couple with composites.
TOOLS THAT TRAVEL
Students learn skills and tools they can take anywhere! Mobility is important because you never know where maritime work can lead. No day is the same in maritime, and many careers depend on tools that can be taken in and out of spaces quickly and safely.
